Commonly called the Pub Crawl, a quick search for information about this great event turns up the intriguing name "Lake Of The Ozarks Mardi Gras Pub Crawl." Participants travel from location to location, touching base at 17 lake area bars on the main route or three pubs on the express bus.

The February activity attracts enough attention that organizers arrange for 16 buses on the main route and two more for the three-stop express. A reasonable fee of $5 secures an individual seat on a bus, the first of which leaves at 4 p.m. Pick up and drop off are set at a number of participating hotels and motels.

Proceeds from the non-profit event go to local charities. Participants are not allowed to carry alcoholic beverages onto busses. In addition, no such beverages are allowed to be taken into or out of the participating pubs. Registration is available online, with completion of a brief form (name, address, ages and number in group, if applicable). Organizers are eager to find out how newcomers find out about the event. It is also helpful to include information about which participating hotel or motel will be your home base.

Lodging is available at Relax Inn, Inn at Grand Glaize, The Resort at Port Arrowhead, Town & Country Motel, Quail's Nest, Skyline Resort, Comfort Inn-Osage Beach, Super 8, Country Club Restaurant and Lounge and Country Hearth Inn. Shuttle busses run to and from hotels/motels from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. The Golden Door Motel is within walking distance of three participating pubs.

Participating pubs include: JJ Twigs, Peckers, City Grill, Chicago Brothers, Bootleggers, Tirebiters Sports Pub, Inn at Grand Glaize, D's Place, Chevys, Casablanca, Arris Pizza, Lil Rizzo's, Pickled Pete's, Mexicali Blues, Wobbly Boots and Lucky's. Many of the participating bars and pubs offer live music during the afternoon/evening event. Peckers is known as a duel-pianos bar, with the musicians known for "inspiring" audience participation.

Some participants find the single-line bus entrances and exits to slow and a bit frustrating when the atmosphere begins to pick up. But nearly everyone can appreciate the safe and reliable transportation. The weather can be a bit cold in February in Missouri so it is best to prepare for being outside for short periods of time. However, this event has acquired a reputation for providing camaraderie and laughs at every stop. Participants must be 21 to be an official member of the Pub Crawl group.
